About Us
For over a century, the Rebelo family has been helping the people of South Goa say their final goodbyes with care, respect, and love. Our journey began many years ago when Sebastião Roberto Rebelo, a young man full of dedication, took up the responsibility of crafting coffins to help local families in their time of need. From that moment on, the Rebelo family has been at the heart of South Goa’s funeral services, providing comfort and support to generations.
In the early days, our family was the only one making coffins and grave crosses in Salcete. The coffins were often decorated with beautiful silver ornaments and cloth linings.
Over time, things changed. Black cloth coffins were once very popular in the 1970s and 80s, but today, most families prefer wooden coffins. We’ve adapted to the times, offering everything from simple, sturdy coffins to more elaborate, decorative ones. We even have options made from biodegradable materials, which are better for the environment.
At Rebelo Undertaker, we’ve always believed that every person deserves a respectful farewell. Whether someone is rich or poor, our family has always tried to make sure that every final journey is as beautiful as possible. In the past, the local church even provided a coffin for families who couldn’t afford one. Today, organisations like Saint Vincent de Paul continue to help the needy, and we’re proud to work with them.
Hayden Rebelo, who now leads the family business, learned the trade by working alongside his father. As a young boy, Hayden would rush from school to the workshop, learning the skills that would later help him guide families through one of the most emotional times in their lives. Just like his father and grandfather before him, Hayden believes in putting love and care into every detail of the funeral services he provides.
In our workshop, we no longer use teakwood, as it does not degrade easily, which makes it difficult for the burial space to be reused. The church advised against its use, and today we focus on creating coffins that are environmentally friendly and suitable for the community’s needs.
But making coffins isn’t just about the materials; it’s about understanding what families need. That’s why we offer a wide range of coffins and accessories so that every family can choose what feels right.
We know that dealing with the loss of a loved one is one of the hardest things anyone can go through. That’s why we’re available 24/7, ready to answer your questions and offer support whenever you need it. Our family is here to help yours, just as we have for over 100 years. Whether you're following Catholic, Hindu, or any other traditions, we’re here to make sure your loved one’s final journey reflects the love and respect they deserve.
At Rebelo Undertaker, we believe that every life deserves to be remembered with dignity, and we are honoured to be part of that journey with you.
